BEAUTY OF MATHEMATICS 4

parabola,mathematics,photography,aesthetics,curves,graphs,algebra,geometry,architecture,engineering
The Technohub, Quezon City, Philippines
The photo above is the 3rd of the photos taken at The Technohub located at Quezon City, Philippines.  The fountains depict a common mathematical graph, which is the parabola. In Physics, it is called the projectile.

The amount of force needed to push the water upward is very important in determining the height of the fountain. The greater the force, the higher the fountain is. The varying heights of the fountains contribute to the beauty of the facade of the park.

The picture above is also taken at The Technohub in Quezon City, Philippines. It portrays the use of spheres as part of the facade of the park. They add more mathematical aesthetic together with the curvature formed by the establishments around it.

The spheres used vary in sizes. Can you approximate the diameter of each? How about their volumes?

The Technohub - Quezon City, Philippines
This is a photo taken at The Technohub located near the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.We met our friends here just for a hangout, sharing stories and laughters, just like the old times.

The photo shows a balance between the use of curved lines and straight lines. The harmony of lines and their symmetry created a beautiful facade. A facade that shows how beautiful mathematics is.

BEAUTY OF MATHEMATICS

The Philippine International Convention Center
Today, I will be starting a series of photos entitled "The Beauty of Mathematics". This series of photos are taken from different places, different environments, different methods used in taking the photos, different angles, different focuses, different mathematical connections, and different appeal.

All of these photos are taken using a mobile phone and (or) point-and-shoot device.

The above photo is taken from the facade of the Philippine International Convention Center, one sunny Sunday. The place is also the venue for the widely known "The Feast" hosted by Bro. Bo Sanchez.

HAPPY 40th ANNIVERSARY RUBIK'S CUBE!

mathematics, puzzles, cubes, trivia, geometry, math games, play, 3d

Today marked the 40th anniversary of one of the famous toys of the world, the Rubik's cube.

Rubik's cube is a 3-D combination puzzle. It was originally named as MAGIC CUBE but later changed to Rubik's cube, in honor to the inventor.

mathematics, math games, math puzzles, math fun, math trivia, geometry
It was invented by Erno Rubik in 1974. Rubik was a Hungarian inventor, architect, and professor of architecture. Since Rubik's Cube was introduced to the public, it became the world's best selling toy.

Now, there are already a lot of variations of the Rubik's cube - various dimensions, colours and shape or form.

Enjoy playing the Rubik's cube. Thank you Sir Erno Rubik for introducing this toy to the world!

HAPPY RUBIK'S CUBE DAY!!!

SYMMETRY and TRANSFORMATION

mathematics,IGCSE,symmetry,geometry,polygons,plane figures

We have just discussed symmetry and transformations in our math class. Showing them possibilities and effects of the transformations to any object/shape - work of arts, symmetrical faces and logos, etc. Then I remember the one above given to me by one of my students. It looks so simple but it shows an application of the concepts we have learned. Thank you Nico for this work of art!
